About SQL Northstar
I founded SQL Northstar as a database developer and performance engineer with nearly 20 years of experience helping businesses speed up slow queries, fix bottlenecks, and optimize data infrastructure.
Based in Omaha, Nebraska, I started SQL Northstar to give clients direct access to specialized database tuning and consulting without agency overhead.
Experience & Background
I began my career at IBM, spending eight years building enterprise data pipelines and ETL processes, including three years working on international systems in Munich, Germany. I later held senior database roles at First Data, PayPal, and Lincoln Financial Group, focusing on high-availability environments, SQL Server optimization, and PostgreSQL tuning.
Across 20 years in tech, insurance, fintech, and healthcare, I have worked extensively with:
- Database Engines: Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL
- Performance Tuning: Query optimization, index tuning, wait-state analysis, and deadlock resolution
- Data Pipelines: SSIS, Alteryx, and Python automation
- Infrastructure: Cloud database migrations, AWS architecture, and high-availability setups (Availability Groups, FCIs)
Why Work With SQL Northstar?
When database performance drops, applications lag, hosting costs rise, and user experience suffers. SQL Northstar targets the root cause of these issues through:
- Database Health Checks: In-depth reviews of server settings, indexing, and system bottlenecks.
- Query Optimization: Rewriting slow queries and building targeted indexing strategies.
- Monitoring & Maintenance: Setting up automated checks to catch issues before they hit production.
How I Work
SQL Northstar takes a straightforward engineering approach. You get practical analysis, direct recommendations, and hands-on execution without unnecessary sales pitches.
Whether you need an urgent query fix or a complete database audit, I work directly with your team to improve performance.
